CHAIR
YOGA TEACHER TRAINING

with Jodi Boone

Date TBD

Chair Yoga is a supportive, accessible form of yoga that weaves together postures, mindful movement, breathwork, and meditation—adapted to meet you where you are. It’s especially beneficial for people with limited mobility, balance concerns, injuries, larger bodies, and aging adults.

With the chair as a steady foundation, students can experience the profound benefits of yoga in a way that feels safe and empowering. Classes emphasize strength, range of motion, balance, stress reduction, release of tension, improved mood, and deep relaxation.

This training is designed for those who want to confidently teach Chair Yoga. You’ll learn how to skillfully guide students with a wide range of abilities and health considerations, creating classes that are inclusive, trauma-aware, and physically safe.

We’ll explore age-appropriate movement for the aging body, along with the mental and emotional shifts that can come with aging. We’ll also take an in-depth look at common conditions you may encounter in senior and chair yoga settings, including high blood pressure, history of stroke, joint replacements, arthritis, osteoporosis, balance challenges, partial hearing or vision loss, and injury recovery—so you can offer thoughtful options, clear cues, and steady support.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Teach Chair Yoga to diverse populations by offering accessible options for different mobility levels, body types, ages, and lived experiences, while maintaining a welcoming and inclusive class culture.

  2. Sequence Chair Yoga classes skillfully by designing classes with a clear arc (arriving, warm-up, building/peak, cool-down, rest), and balancing strength, mobility, stability, breath, and relaxation.

  3. Work confidently with special physical needs, injuries, and common health conditions by applying foundational precautions, offering appropriate modifications and progressions, and recognizing when to refer out or encourage medical guidance.

  4. Use touch and assisting safely and ethically by practicing consent-based, trauma-aware assisting; offering hands-on assists only when appropriate; and using clear verbal cueing as a primary tool.

  5. Facilitate a sharing circle that promotes community by setting group agreements, guiding respectful turn-taking, using invitational language, and supporting participants to share in ways that feel emotionally safe and optional.
